Labour's Manifesto: A Future Fair for All

Richard Mollet, Labour's candidate in South West Surrey, has outlined the philosophy behind Labour's manifesto and campaign theme "a Future Fair for All":

As someone who lives with a young family in Chiddingfold and who has been campaigning as the Labour Party candidate in the area for over two years, I know how important quality public services are to people who live in South West Surrey.

The Labour Party’s manifesto for the Election, published this week, is a programme for further improvements to those services, and a commitment to continue the path to economic recovery following the global economic crisis.

Its title is a “Future Fair for All”  and the best way to demonstrate what that means is to look at education.  Labour created the Sure Start programme to help every child, whatever their background, to get off to a flying start in life.  We will expand this Children’s Centres programme.  We will also ensure that every young person up to the age of 18 is guaranteed to be involved in some form of training, education or work.  And for those children who fall behind in school, we guarantee one-to-one and small group tuition, or in secondary schools, a personal tutor

We also want a future fair for pensioners, so just as we created the National Health Service over 60 years ago, we will create a National Care Service to ensure free care in the home for those with the greatest needs and a cap on the costs of residential care.

These are just a few examples of the affordable measures within the manifesto.  But I would urge anyone with an interest in the election – even if they do not consider themselves natural Labour voters – to read what the Labour Party has to say about the development of the National Health Service, policies on communities, the environment and our political system.

Labour has a historic record of building and improving Britain’s public services.  Our manifesto for the May 6th election takes this mission forward with a clear sense of optimism and purpose.

Yours sincerely
