  • Labour Party Conference Fizzing with Ideas
1.10.09: SW Surrey Labour Party PPC Richard Mollet has written to the Farnham Herald on the Labour Party Conference, the letter is reproduced below. Sir, Having spent last week in Brighton for the Labour Party conference, I would like to report on some of the things not picked up by national media coverage. Far from obsessing about BBC interviews or newspaper support, from fringe events to the conference floor, the mood amongst delegates was one of energy and determination. The poll figures may tell us that we are the underdogs, but politics is about beliefs and action, not numbers. Labour members from across...
  • Democracy Demands Election Night Count
10.9.09: South West Surrey Labour Party’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Richard Mollet has called on Waverley Borough Council to ensure that next year’s General Election count for the South West Surrey constituency takes place on the night of the election. Press reports this weekend has suggested that some local authorities may wish to delay the count until Friday. This means that results might not become known until the weekend. This decision is the hands of the Returning Officer and Chief Executive Mary Orton. Mollet has contacted the Council to get assurances that they will not delay in this way. He has...
  • Tories Can't be Trusted on the NHS
24.8.09 Tories Can't be Trusted on the NHS The following letter appeared in the Farnham and Haslemere Herald, noting the rather large discrepancy between what the Tory leader says about the NHS and the views of one of his prominent MEPs. Sir, The comments this week from the Conservative MEP Daniel Hannan doing down the NHS have lifted the lid on what that party really thinks about the public services. David Cameron has tried to write Hannan off as an eccentric, yet only this Spring he had a full speaking slot at the Tory Conference. And why does...
  • Darling's Budget the Right Way Through
Following Wednesday’s Budget, I overhead a lady on the train discussing with her husband the need to contact their accountant to find ways around the increased tax rate. Hearing that conversation confirmed for me that what the Chancellor Alistair Darling is proposing is right and fair. Britain, in common with every major country, is having to deal with the deep global economic crisis. Like other governments, ours recognises that the path to recovery lies in investment. And the Labour government believes that the fair and just way to do this is by having those who can afford...
  • Labour Says Dunsfold Park Housing Should be a Top Priority
8.3.09: South West Surrey Labour Party’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Richard Mollet has given the Party’s backing to the proposed Dunsfold Park development, having received key assurances from the developer on the provision of social housing. Following discussion with Jim McAllister, the Chief Executive of Dunsfold Park Ltd, Mollet has received guarantees that affordable homes on the Dunsfold Park site will: · Be spread throughout the site; · Be no different in external appearance; · Be within easy reach of medical facilities, and heated with the proposed on-site fuel efficient measures. As a result South West...

  • They Think It's All Over....They are sort of right
The laws of political gravity held up. The Tories won SW Surrey with an incresed majority of 16,000 and 59% of the vote. All those people who thought that tactical voting might unseat Mr Hunt were proven wrong. It is...
  • The Final 24 Hours.....
Not even the welcome distraction of seeing Spurs clinch fourth place in the Premiership could take my mind off the polls. The latest batch tonight still show it as being incredibly tight, with Harris providing the only comfort of Labour...
  • The Final Days
Do you remember those people at school who went around the days before the O level results came out, acting like they had 9 As in the bag? That is what Cameron reminds me of this weekend. It's such a...
